Record Store Day Vinyl Releases Coming from Aerosmith, Jimi Hendrix and More
7:37AM Wednesday
March 27, 2013

You can add Aerosmith and Jimi Hendrix to the list of artists who will be issuing limited-edition vinyl discs in conjunction with next edition of the Record Store Day initiative.

Aerosmith will release high-quality vinyl versions of its first three studio efforts for the campaign: 1973's Aerosmith, 1974's Get Your Wings and 1975's Toys in the Attic.  All the albums will be available on 12-inch vinyl and feature audio that has been newly remastered from the original source tapes.

Meanwhile, a seven-inch vinyl replica of Jimi Hendrix's 1966 debut single, "Hey Joe" backed with "Stone Free," featuring the original 1966 mono mixes that appeared on the original U.K. release, also will be available.

Also coming out on Record Store Day is an expanded version of 1995's Above, the only studio album by grunge supergroup Mad Season, which included late Alice in Chains frontman Layne Staley and Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready.  The double-vinyl release boasts the original album, as well as three songs from the band's unfinished second album with new lyrics and vocals by ex-Screaming Trees singer Mark Lanegan.  The record also contains a previously unreleased instrumental and a remixed cover version of John Lennon's "I Don't Wanna Be a Soldier."

In addition, an individually numbered double-LP set collecting the two long-out-of-print albums by the early-'70s rock trio Dust will hit stores on April 20.  Dust featured drummer Marc Bell -- now better known as Marky Ramone -- as well as journeyman bassist Kenny Aronson (Bob Dylan, Rick Derringer, The New York Dolls) and guitarist Richie Wise, who went on to co-produce Kiss' first two records.

Each Record Store Day, a variety of artists release limited-edition album reissues, new singles and rare and unreleased materials -- all on vinyl -- to support independent record stores.
