Tina Turner, ‘Queen Of Rock And Roll,’ Passes Away

Tina Turner, hailed as the “Queen of Rock and Roll,” has died at the age of 83.

Turner, who rose from humble beginnings and overcame a notoriously abusive marriage to become one of the most successful recording artists of all time, died at her home in Kusnacht near Zurich, Switzerland, on Wednesday.

“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Tina Turner. With her music and her boundless passion for life, she enchanted millions of fans around the world and inspired the stars of tomorrow,” her family announced in a statement posted on social media. “Today we say goodbye to a dear friend who leaves us all her greatest work: her music. All our heartfelt compassion goes out to her family. Tina, we will miss you dearly.”

The Rock & Roll Hall of Famer had been suffering from multiple health issues in recent years including cancer, a stroke and kidney failure.

A naturalized Swiss singer, Turner rose to prominence as the lead singer of the Ike & Tina Turner Revue before launching a successful career as a solo performer.

In 1984, Turner made one of the greatest comebacks in music history with her multiplatinum album Private Dancer.

She was the only woman to win Grammy Awards in the pop, rock, and R&B categories. Her iconic hits include “Proud Mary,” “The Best” and “What’s Love Got to Do with It.”
